Board's Blog
1st Board Blog
A look out of the rainy window tells me my train just arrived in Utrecht, just one more hour until I’m back home. I’ve always found long train journeys (such as the one from Groningen to Delft) a good occasion for some reflective thinking. In a car you are either focusing on driving or talking to your driver, whereas a train allows you to gaze out of the window mindlessly for hours on end. And since I’ve convinced myself I can’t study in a train, I thought it would be a nice idea to write something to you all.
The last few weeks I have found myself wondering what the hell I got myself into when I became president of AEGEE-Delft. Especially in the beginning of the year, when things were moving extremely fast. The new board getting together, writing policies, activity plans and budgets, making photos and of course our constitution drink, all happened in a matter of a few short weeks. It all went so fast it became very hard to keep my focus and I almost forgot why I applied in the first place. Luckily I got a valuable piece of advice from a wise former board-member who said: “oh, and just remember to have fun.”
Whoops, almost forgot about that!
So from now on, whenever I am in doubt, I remind myself of the fun times I’ve already had with AEGEE, like hitchhiking to Krakow or camping in the snowy Alps in the middle of the winter. And of course I look forward to all the wonderful things to come, all the road-trips, the camps, parties, dinners, the EBM’s and Agorae.
As my train rolls out of Gouda, I would like to conclude with a simple creed me and a good friend came up with and which is going to be my new motto from now on:
“Make sure you always now when your next trip is.”
